Martinů Hall, Liechtenstein Palace, Prague

The concert's generous dramaturgy includes Beethoven's Sonata No. 8, a selection of Shostakovich's Preludes, Mendelssohn-Bartholdi's Sonata in F minor, Viktor Kalabis's Sonata for Violin and Piano and finally Bohuslav Martinů's Czech Rhapsody. Martinů composed two compositions under this title. The first is a cantata from 1918, celebrating the establishment of an independent Czechoslovakia. The second is a chamber piece for violin and piano from 1945, the end of another world war, which not only affected the composer's life very fundamentally.
The demanding programme will be performed by violinist Jan Mráček, concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic, and pianist Lukáš Klánský, one of the most sought-after solo and chamber players. Both performers are also colleagues from the Lobkowicz Piano Trio, which celebrates ten years on the scene this year.
