Finis coronat opus – the end crowns the work. The conclusion of the FOK orchestra’s season will be a major surprise not only for the audience but also for the musicians themselves. Few orchestras today can boast a European opera premiere in their program, let alone one by the great Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů. The newly discovered opera Mariken of Nimègue will be a musical gift for all lovers of his music. The performance will be led by chief conductor Tomáš Netopil, with narration by Vladimír Polívka.
The opera will be performed from the new volume of the same name in the complete critical edition, prepared by the Bohuslav Martinů Institute in collaboration with the Bärenreiter publishing house. The volume was officially presented at a launch ceremony during the 2024 festival season at the Municipal House, with the authors and other distinguished guests in attendance.
